Sometime in the late 60’s or early 70’s, crocheted clothing became a fashion statement. I don’t know why or how this happened, as I was just a kid, but there were all kinds of books for crocheting clothing and by the 70’s, the Granny Square look was in almost every aspect of every person’s wardrobe in ever magazine. Even Playboy did a men’s fashion spread featuring pre-“Dirty Harry” Clint Eastwood in a crocheted vest! Only Clint Eastwood could make a rather unattractive granny square vest look sexy!\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWe were encouraged to crochet everything from vests to ponchos to pants to sweaters to entire ensembles. I’m sure some women (and men) did, for a time. Then, crochet fell out of vogue. The 80’s and 90’s were anything but crochet friendly. Now, crochet is back, but nothing like the crazy outfits that the 70’s spawned.
