Fall-Winter 2013 Fashion Trends: 7 Trends You Already Own

Now that summer is officially over (well, it’s after Labor Day, after all) I’m back to blogging and to maintaining my wardrobe.  So the first thing I did –after I looked at the best of the September Issues– was to look at my wardrobe and, basically, shop my closet to see what’s already there.  Between what I found in the mags, and what’s in my own closet, I figured out that there are seven trends that most fashionistas will already have in their closets and can cross off their to-buy lists.  Here’s what I came up with for this fall:\r\n\r\n1.  Black Booties.  A 21st Century perennial! (so far)  I’m seeing a lot of smooth leathers but if you, like me, have a suede or Steve Madden Black Suede Booties from 2011patent leather, and they’re still in good shape, you’re really set to go.  Here’s a pic of my 2-year-old Steve Maddens that don’t even need new heels!\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n2.  Lace Dress.  It’s back again!  Whether it’s basic black or beautiful bright red like in all those Dolce & Gabbana ads, or just about any other color, the lace dress is still a great one for party season.  My favorite is this beautiful smoke one from BB Dakota available at ModCloth.com. (this could be my splurge item for this season!)\r\n\r\n3.  Pencil Skirts.   They look great on just about everyone, and are in all sorts of colors and patterns.  I love a good wool houndstooth as it can be matched with a plain, good quality cashmere sweater.  Every store will have them, and you should have at least a basic black one in your closet.  I have a denim one (denim is another big trend) as well as black pointe knit and wool houndstooth.  I will be ditching the A-line emerald green skirt this year, as A-line skirts don’t particularly flatter me.\r\n\r\n4.  Bright color winter coat.  If you saw some of the gorgeous Oscar e la Renta coats in Vogue, you’ll know what I mean.  Two years ago I purchased a beautiful plum-colored Ellen Tracey coat, which will serve me again this year.  I also have a beautiful fuchsia swing coat my mother gave me over 10 years ago, which I’ve thought of having cut down to a better shape for me.  In the swing shape, I look like a big cupcake.  But I love the color and it is quite flattering.\r\n\r\n5.  Ankle length pants.  Yes, they are back.  oh, and on Loft.com you will find a feature to help you pick the best fit for\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\nyou.For me, slimmer in the hips and petite (with a smaller rise than average size) work best for me.  I like them with ankle boots and corresponding tights.\r\n\r\n6.  Cobalt blue.  This is a great all-purpose, super-saturated blue that you can match with denim, black, and just about any color.  It can be a neutral in your wardrobe or the color that makes an outfit pop.  I love my cobalt blue ankle length cuffed pants (see the pic on the right) with black boots and an oversized black Angora sweater.  Just comfy!\r\n\r\n7.  Leopard pumps.  They are all over the place again!  and in the spring-summer we were told we could use\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\nleopard as a neutral.  They do go quite nicely with a lot of different colors including burgundy and other jewel tones that are great for fall.  I’m lacking a pair, so I’m thinking of purchasing this really pretty pair from the Christian Siriano Collection for Payless.  Siriano’s shoes are fabulous quality at a great price point!  Oh, and watch the video.  Christian has a beautiful aesthetic, and I *love* the Russian Opera theme he’s worked into his clothing collection.\r\n\r\nSo, there’s your quick starter list of trends that you might already have in your closets, and what I already have (and don’t have) in mine.  Please add any other trends that you’ve noticed you already have in your closets–thanks!
